Someone Has Changed Quality Management - Discount Netbook Critique

It's hard to consider dinging it for only 1GB RAM, when that seems standard. I wish they would just raise the price of netbooks $10, throw the 2GB in there and stop messing around. But, that's more a problem with the Windows 7 Starter OS, than it is with the hardware. I received this laptop around a week ago and I'm in love with it! As long as you know you're buying a netbook and what a netbook can and can't do this might be the product for you, here is my story. After much success in buying Toshiba products, I was very disappointed in the short life I experienced with this product. Speakers are very poor- at its highest I could barely hear at a yard. I got the phone to work with my Droid. Set up was easy, it was ready to use out of the box. It's solidly constructed and doesn't look like it going to fall apart after a couple of uses.

Also, weight is less than 3 pounds, not 6 pounds like my laptop. I love my new TOSHIBA Notebook. I like the size because I travel with a full size laptop for business and take my netbook along for personal use. I did upgrade it to 2 GB and I think it runs a bit faster.

Appearance-wise, the Toshiba is so adorable and I'm blown away by how lightweight it was. It weighs practically nothing--you could easily slip it in your purse and carry it without even noticing the extra weight. The quiet keyboard also feels nice and the touchpad is very responsive. I also like that it comes preloaded with NS internet security netbook version which really has not slowed it down in any noticeable way. Fires up quickly and does all the Office documents and web surfing I need it to. Based on other reviews I immediately upgraded the RAM to 2GB.

Unfortunately, when I bought the netbook, I also purchased DDR2 memory from Beach Camera, and have not been able to contact them to return the DDR2 memory. Hopefully people who purchase this netbook will learn from my experience and wait until receipt of the netbook before purchasing memory.

Boot-up time is also reduced with 2GB.

When I first booted it up, it was fast. I loaded MS Office on it and never noticed any slowdown.

From this perspective, I certainly recommend this product, cheaper than a laptop and significantly easier to carry! I received my netbook a couple of days ago and I have been really putting it through its paces, and it's holding up great - as someone else noted, it's a very cool-running machine (I have a Dell laptop and that thing can scorch your lap). We were actually pretty interested in this feature for use on a long international flight to charge a phone or MP3 player. This, along with the color options, is what differentiated this product from the very similar Asus et al.
