Using the internet to sell products and services can bring in a substantial amount of money. This is common knowledge among internet marketers. All internet marketers know that the internet is not some type of ATM machine but if you build a large list of buyers then you can come very close to it. Lots of internet marketers enjoy great levels of success when they sell their products and services through e-mail marketing. There are lots of reasons that e-mail marketing is more successful than other forms of making money online. E-mail marketing is so effective because you once you have a subscriber's email address you have created a two-way line of communication that you can now use to establish a relationship. Following are a few ways of getting people on your list.

You may have heard that all you have to do to acquire a huge e-mail list is to simply buy e-mail addresses from someone. Do not believe this! People may try to sell you e-mail addresses at a low price, but you should never buy them. This is the fastest way to get flagged for being a spammer. Think about it: who else would buy and sell e-mail addresses? If you look at any sign-up for a list, you'll see that it promises not to share your e-mail with anyone else. It bears repeating: do not ever buy e-mail addresses to build your list. Don't risk creating unnecessary difficulties by doing this.

Don't make it difficult for people to type in their e-mail addresses. Put the opt in form in a prime location on your website. This is in some ways the most important item on your page, so make it stand out. You should not reserve one special page for this form, but have it displayed on all of your pages and on every website or blog that is on the same topic. Remember, people are busy and easily distracted, so you don't want to make typing in their e-mail address something they have to think about too much. If you make it easy, however, you will probably end up with more e-mail addresses than you know what to do with!

Get permission to add people that you already know to your list. This a great way to get your first subscribers if you are just starting out. If you have already been doing business online you have probably racked up quite a few e-mail addresses on your contact list from people who have sent you questions, advice or who have ordered products from you. These are people that you have responded to and helped in the past so they will welcome your invitation, especially if you provide good information. Add everyone who says yes!

Advertising can be a very effective way to build your list. Write advertisements that tempt people to sign up for your newsletter; you can always offer them a free report or something like that. Make sure you find places to advertise that attract customers in your niche; find related blogs, newsletters and websites.

This is a simple but effective way to increase the size of your list quickly. This is a good and ethical way to build a list, but many internet marketers don't take advantage of it. List marketing really is one of the most powerful methods to make money online. The goal of your list to get to know them, help them, and then offer them great products of services. An email list can be the most targeted audience possible, if you get it right. So if big profits are your goal in IM, then the list is the way to get there.
